University of Northern British Columbia

GENDER IS A DRAG: VARIETY SHOW FUNDRAISER

University of Northern British Columbia: NUSC Event Space

April 9th, 2011 from 6-10pm

The Northern Pride Centre Society (PC) is promoting a community drag/variety show to celebrate their successes and to raise money for continued operation. By providing community events, peer support, LGBTQ resources, and a safe environment it is the PC’s mission to foster and enhance the well-being, unity and visibility of transgendered, bisexual, lesbian, and gay persons and people with related concerns in the North.

“We have lots to commemorate! The Pride Centre, located at UNBC, has grown substantially over this past school year” says Arkell Wiley, a volunteer with the PC. “Without funding from the university, however, we also have a long way to go. The Gender is a Drag show will be a chance for us to celebrate diversity, raise funds for the Pride Centre, and have a fabulous time.”

The drag show will feature an assortment of performances by members of the queer and ally community including special appearances by international celebrities and reigning Queens Ivana B'Alone and Foxy de Rossi and the dynamic Mr. Gay PG, Austin Tacious. Other notable performers will be writer Tess Healy and local jam band The Bricks!

There will also be a trivia contest, raffle, 50/50 draw, games, as well as food and art sold by local community members.

Admission is 5$ and tickets are available at Shagg Boutique (1601 Victoria St), the Pride Centre (6-344 of the NUSC Building), the NUGGS office, and at the door. All funds raised will go to support initiatives of the PC such as the educational Positive Space Workshop, Crisis Phone Line, and Youth Outreach Program.

The show will take place at the NUSC event space at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George (3333 University Way) on Saturday April 9th, 2011.
